Plano confirms coronavirus outbreak at Arbor Hills Memory Care Community

More than a dozen residents of a Plano assisted-living community have tested positive for the coronavirus as the city continues the process of testing all of its long-term care facilities.

Eighteen residents of Arbor Hills Memory Care Community were confirmed to have the virus, the facility’s parent company reported June 16. Two residents tested negative, and eight more had unknown results.

Several residents were hospitalized earlier this week, although some have already returned to the facility, Koelsch Communities said in a news release.

“Our hearts go out to everyone, including every family impacted by the virus directly,” the company said in the statement. “We remain closely aligned with the CDC and public health officials to ensure our infection control and sanitation protocols reflect the most up-to-date standards and guidelines across all communities. Protecting the well-being of our residents and staff remains our top priority.”

Arbor Hills said it learned June 8 that one of its staff members was confirmed to have the virus. It said it informed health authorities, residents and their family and legal representatives that same day of the positive case. A few days later, three more staff members tested positive.

The entire community was tested June 15, according to the release. All results for residents have been returned.

Although some employee tests remain pending as of June 16, eight staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.

Plano Fire-Rescue personnel have been conducting an extensive effort since May 22 to test residents and staff of the city’s nursing homes for COVID-19.

The Park in Plano was the first to be tested, Capt. Peggy Harrell said at the time. It is unknown how long it will take to test every facility.
