Plano City Council to consider new comprehensive plan

Plano City Council is scheduled to vote on adopting the draft comprehensive plan during its Nov. 8 meeting, according to city officials.

The plan is a long-term guide for the city that focuses on future growth, priorities, services and development in Plano, according to the city’s website. Currently, city officials follow guidelines from the interim comprehensive plan that was approved in 1986.

Residents will have the opportunity to comment on the plan during a public hearing before the final vote.

Once known as Plano Tomorrow, the draft comprehensive plan was rejected by council in August 2020 after nearly half a decade of political and legal conflict. The disagreements mainly centered on guidelines for apartment development and density.

Council then mandated the formation of the 16-member Plano Comprehensive Plan Review Committee, charged with making revisions to the Plano Tomorrow plan.

After a year and a half of work, the plan has been approved by the committee and the planning and zoning commission in recent months.
