The Dallas Morning News announced Feb. 27 it had laid off 57 employees at its Plano-based printing facility at 3900 W. Plano Parkway. The move was part of an effort to scale back the number of print customers the facility serves from more than 30 to five, according to a news release by the paper’s parent company A.H. Belo Corp. The facility will continue to print The News, as well as copies of The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Denton Record-Chronicle. An additional 35 unfilled positions were also eliminated. The move is expected to increase the company's operating income by more than $2 million this year, President and Publisher Grant Moise said in the statement. www.ahbelo.com
