Plano's Harrington Library to temporarily close as renovations continue

Plano's Harrington Library will close beginning Oct. 30 for more than two months as $5 million in building renovations continues.

The library branch at 1501 18th St. is scheduled to reopen in mid-January, according to a city news release.

"Construction on the renovation has progressed to the point that closing the library is the best option," the city stated in the release. "As always, safety is the city’s top priority."

The renovation project is being funded as part of the city's 2017 bond program approved by voters. Construction began in November. Plans include renovating the children's area and creating dedicated spaces for a Children's Program Room and a Teen Space, the release stated. The renovations will also create new study rooms and extra meeting rooms and install a new roof and a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, according to the release.

The book drop at Harrington Library will also be closed during this period, according to the city.

Library patrons are encouraged to visit one of the city's four other locations. Schimelpfenig Library, which is the closest branch to Harrington Library, is at 5024 Custer Road. The other library branches and their addresses are Davis Library, 7501-B Independence Parkway; Haggard Library, 2501 Coit Road; and Parr Library, 6200 Windhaven Parkway.
