New data from the Texas Education Agency shows that Pflugerville ISD students saw some year over year gains and losses in its 2026 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, scores.
The TEA released statewide and district-specific scores for the high school STAAR end-of-course exams for algebra, English, biology and U.S. History on June 10, and third through eighth grade STAAR tests for math, reading and social studies June 16.
Individual STAAR score reports are available to families through their school district's portal, or at www.texasassessment.gov using the unique access code provided by their student's school.
Some context
The TEA uses a four-tiered grading system to score STAAR test performance and determine if students need academic intervention in order to succeed in the next grade. "Did not meet grade level" indicates students are likely to need intervention, while "approaches grade level" is considered a passing score but could require some intervention. "Meets grade level" and "masters grade level" indicate students need little to no intervention.
By the numbers
Data shows PfISD's "approaches grade level" scores in 2026 were below the state in every subject with the exception of:
- Third grade math
- Third, fourth, fifth and eighth grade reading
- Eighth grade social studies
- Biology, English II and U.S. History
These subjects were either the same or one to two percentage points higher than the state, while eighth grade social studies scores were four percentage points higher.
Internally, PfISD's "approaches grade level" scores were the same or higher in every subject compared to 2025 with the exception of:
- Third, fourth, sixth and seventh grade math
- Third, fourth and sixth grade reading
PfISD saw the most significant dips in third grade math scores, dropping seven percentage points from 2025. Seventh grade math and third grade reading scores also dropped six percentage points.
However, the district's highest gain year over year was in social studies and Algebra I by seven percentage points. PfISD also saw gains in English I by five percentage points, and both eighth grade math and reading by four percentage points.

TEA will release science STAAR scores July 31.
