Spring Social on May 1 to raise money for Pearland’s all-inclusive playground

The Forever Parks Foundation is hosting a fundraiser for Pearland’s first all-inclusive playground May 1. The Spring Social will be take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Sports Complex at Shadow Creek Ranch’s outdoor pavilion.

The event will include attractions for children and adults. The main event is a gallery walk with 3-D images of the playground design, said Nikki Kamkar, board member at Forever Parks Foundation. Kamkar hopes the wall will inspire people to donate to the playground.

“People are going to be wow’ed. It’s going to be awesome,” she said.

The park will cost $750,000 to build. Once completed, the park will have several features to make it accessible for children of all abilities, including surfacing, a swing set and merry-go-round that are all accessible to children in wheelchairs. The park will also have a tunnel and bird-themed hut for children who might need quiet time as well as elements for children on the neurological spectrum. The park can also be used for physical therapy.

The park will be right next to the Miracle Field being built at the Shadow Creek Sports Complex. Kamkar hopes this park also becomes a regional attraction for children with mental or physical disabilities as well as their siblings and friends.

“With three boys, we are outside every day,” she said. “I can’t imagine that not being true for my fellow moms. I guess I could say I’m doing it for my fellow moms.”
