The bill of U.S. Rep. Pete Olson, R-Sugar Land, to name a post office after former Pearland Mayor Tom Reid passed the House last week and the Senate on Dec. 17, Olson said.
“This is a great Christmas present for Pearland,” Olson said.
The bill, H.R. 7810, will name the post office at 3519 E. Walnut St., Pearland, after Reid, who served the city of Pearland as a council member, then mayor, for nearly 40 years. Reid announced he would not seek re-election in 2020, ending his long term as mayor.
“Tom is just such a star. He came there when Pearland was around 6,000 people, and now it’s around 140,000 people,” Olson said. “Mayor Tom brought an exploding and diverse community together.”
