High school students in Alvin ISD will be able to enroll in a team sports officiating course in the 2024-25 school year after the district’s board of trustees approved the course at its Jan. 9 meeting.
The overview
Through this course, students will be able to learn how to be sports officials in Texas as well as become qualified to officiate University Interscholastic League and other athletic competitions in every sport, according to district documents.
Juniors and seniors in AISD will be eligible to take the course, which will be piloted next school year to gauge interest, according to district documents. Students will earn one credit toward physical education. The course will be a full school year.
