Pearland City Council approved several contracts and agreements at its Sept. 28 meeting that will fund improvements at two sportsplexes and the Clear Creek trail system, as well as a portion of the Broadway Street expansion.
What’s new
Council approved an agreement with the Pearland Economic Development Corporation, or PEDC, for up to $22 million to fund improvements at the Sportsplex at Shadow Creek Ranch and the Clear Creek trailhead, including an extension of the Kingsley Trail system along Clear Creek, according to city documents.
The agreement also includes up to $1 million to support the expansion of Broadway Street from Kirby Drive to Halfmoon Bay Drive, city documents note.
Separately, City Council approved a nearly $716,000 agreement with Houston-based landscape architecture firm Clark Condon Associates for design work on the sportsplex and Clear Creek improvements.

Concession stand renovations
Covered pickleball courts
A natural-turf multipurpose field
An artificial-turf event lawn and pavilion
Batting cages
Improved pedestrian connections

Council also approved the purchase of lighting and installation services at Hickory Slough Sportsplex where only three of the facility's six existing fields currently have lighting, city documents show.
The improvements will cost about $1.4 million and will be funded through an agreement with the PEDC, city documents show.
Looking ahead
Design for the Sportsplex at Shadow Creek Ranch and Clear Creek trail improvements is expected to take around six months, with construction anticipated to begin in July 2027, city documents show.
Installation of the lighting at the three Hickory Slough fields is anticipated to begin in October, city documents show.
