Former Hutto and Friendswood head football coach Steve Van Meter has been tapped as the new athletic director and head football coach for Weiss High School, Pflugerville ISD announced April 8.
Van Meter brings with him more than three decades of high school football coaching experience. Most recently, Van Meter led the Hutto ISD football program to the Class 5A Division II state quarterfinals, according to PfISD’s announcement.
In 2018, Van Meter retired from his position with Hutto ISD, where former offensive coordinator Brad Laplante took over Van Meter’s position.
Van Meter in 1992 began his high school coaching career at Friendswood High School just south of Houston, according to the PfISD release. His teams at Friendswood ISD advanced to the state quarterfinals three times and the state semifinals twice.
