Council approves federal weatherization funds for low-income housing
Austin City Council approved a $900,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy for the weatherization of homes for low-income, elderly and disabled customers.
The grant will be put toward the Mount Carmel apartment complex in East Austin and the Chase Village apartment complex, located near the intersection of West Anderson Lane and I-35 in North Austin.
The 182-unit residential complexes will receive energy-efficient upgrades such as air conditioner replacement, insulation repairs, sealing of doors and windows, and the replacement of gas stoves.
Nonprofit opens its 2012 Community Tax Centers
Foundation Communities introduced two new services at its Community Tax Centers, including its Norwood Park Boulevard, Airport Boulevard and Blessing Avenue locations.
