After expanding free curbside meal pickup services for students throughout the pandemic, all of the public school districts covering Northwest Austin will continue to offer free meals to kids this upcoming summer.
Austin ISD announced May 25 it is continuing its free meal pickup at more than 50 campuses districtwide this summer. The meals distributed by AISD are free for any child under the age of 19 as well as older students who utilize special education resources or students who are enrolled in school in order to complete the requirements for a high school diploma, according to the district’s May 25 news release.
Children can visit any pickup site to receive the free meals and do not have to be enrolled at AISD to receive meals, according to the district. Parents or caregivers picking up food without a child present must provide documentation, such as a birth certificate or report card, in order to receive meals.
Families can choose to pick up daily to-go meals or weekly meal packs that can be reheated at a later time. According to the district, it will also provide free caregiver meals for adults with children. Menus for both daily and weekly pickup sites can be viewed at www.schoolcafe.com/austinisd.
