Foundation Communities, an Austin-based nonprofit organization, launched a new financial assistance center on West Braker Lane. Prosper Center North will replace the organization’s Prosper Center, which previously operated on North Airport Boulevard, according to a news release.
The overview
The new facility will provide free assistance with tax preparation, affordable health insurance enrollment, financial coaching, benefits assistance and college and career coaching, according to the release. Foundation Communities held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the center three days before the start of open enrollment for the federal marketplace insurance, which takes place Nov. 1-Jan 15.
“The service is free and it's unbiased,” said Walter Moreau, executive director of Foundation Communities. “We don't take any money from insurance companies. So, we really want to figure out what is the very best plan for each individual client and your unique situation.”

Prosper Center North opened in the former St. Mark United Methodist Church. The space features a 4,600-square-foot main building with:
20 work stations separated by sound-minimizing dividers for added privacy
Fully enclosed office spaces for private consultations
Renovated restrooms, roofing and insulation
A 12x7-foot window for additional natural light
The facility sits on 4.9 acres of land, which Foundation Communities purchased from the United Methodist Church; the church shuttered in 2025 due to low attendance. Foundation Communities hopes to construct affordable housing for families on the property in the near future, according to the release. Foundation Communities currently owns and manages 30 affordable communities across Austin, as well as three communities in North Texas.
Prosper Center relocated further north to be closer to its clients, Moreau said. With the new location, Foundation Communities can also assist clients from Pflugerville, Round Rock and additional North Austin communities.
The impact
At the new center, the Prosper Health Coverage program will be active seven days a week through Dec. 15. Clients must enroll in a plan by Dec. 15 in order for their coverage to take effect by New Year’s Day.
The Prosper Health Coverage program plans to:
Enroll 4,000 Central Texans in health insurance plans
Host more than 230 Certified Application Counselors to work with 20 staff members
Enroll about 2,400 Central Texas Musicians in partnership with Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM)
The celebration
The nonprofit commemorated the grand opening of the Prosper Center North with a celebration on Oct. 28. The celebration featured remarks from Moreau, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, musician Chase Spruiell, HAAM members and others.
Foundation Communities dedicated two spaces in the Prosper Center North to Doggett and Wells Fargo, honoring their time and monetary donations to the Prosper financial assistance programs.
