Texas-based grocer H-E-B will open its newest store in Hutto on Wednesday. Public ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the city’s first full grocery store are at 8 a.m.
Construction began in March on the 121,000-square-foot building at the northwest corner of Gattis School Road and SH 130. After delivery of the store’s hippo statue, a common fixture among several city businesses and institutions, work continues inside to prepare for next week’s opening.
“We are thrilled to open and share the new Hutto H-E-B
plus! with the entire community,” store manager Reb Burgert said. “We spent several years planning the right-sized store for this growing community and we hope shoppers are as excited as we are about the variety of offerings, like the Mia’s Mirror accessory boutique, the expanded H-E-B Meal Simple products, and the largest beer & wine Department in the company. We look forward to celebrating with all of our neighbors on opening day.”
According to the city, other retailers coming to spaces surrounding H-E-B will be announced soon.
Hutto Mayor Doug Gaul said H-E-B is a positive development for the city.
“They are a good community supporter,” Gaul said. “They’ll be a good addition to our community.”
The grocery store also sells specialty items, including sushi, health foods, beer and wine, baked goods, TVs and outdoor plants. It also includes a pharmacy and gas station.
H-E-B has more than 380 stores and 96,000 employees in Texas and Mexico.
The new store is located at 5000 Gattis School Road, Hutto. H-E-B Public Affairs Manager Tamra Jones said the store at Red Bud Lane and Gattis School Road will continue operations as H-E-B.
