The San Antonio Board of Realtors and Four Rivers Association of Realtors announced in an April 14 news release that they formally approved and signed a strategic merger agreement.
What it means
The organizations are looking to amplify advocacy efforts at a local and state level, expand education and professional development opportunities, and increase networking and regional collaboration. The merger would expand the association’s coverage across a larger geographic area and create new opportunities to enhance member services, the release states.
SABOR CEO Gilbert Gonzalez said this was an important, strategic moment for the associations and the communities they serve.
Ed Zapata, chair of SABOR, said the proposed merger represents an opportunity to better serve members and strengthen the Realtor voice across the region.
“By coming together, we can expand resources, enhance collaboration and position our members for long-term success,” Zapata said in the release.

SABOR represents over 13,000 members and serves more than 10 counties, including:
- Atascosa
- Bee
- Bexar
- Frio
- Kendall
- La Salle
- Medina
- Val Verde
Four Rivers AOR formed in 2014 after merging with the New Braunfels/Canyon Lake Association of Realtors, Seguin Board of Realtors and San Marcos Area Board of Realtors. The association provides advocacy, education and housing market information, according to the release. Four Rivers AOR represents Realtors and real estate professionals in the following counties:
- Caldwell
- Comal
- Gonzales
- Guadalupe
- Hays
Next steps
The proposed merger is pending approval by both organizations. Once details related to governance structure, operational planning and finances are finalized, a general membership meeting will be held with members of SABOR and Four Rivers AOR. Then, those members will have the opportunity to vote on the proposed merger, the release states. If approved, the National Association of Realtors will need to ratify the merger agreement for the merger to become official.
