Two Rivers Academy looks to expand in New Braunfels

Two Rivers Academy, a locally owned day care located at 1156 Magazine Ave., is looking to expand in New Braunfels after New Braunfels City Council approved an ordinance rezoning 0.2 acres of the property from single-family and two-family district to commercial office district March 24.

The ordinance was approved on first reading and will come back to council for final consideration at a future meeting.

The details

Two Rivers Academy—owned by Deanna and Blake Timmons—offers child care services for families with children ages 3-5. As a licensed home day care center, the state caps the academy's enrollment at 12 children, Deanna Timmons said.

The rezoning would allow the day care to add an additional 25 spots, Blake Timmons said.

“We do not have a large turnover, so as soon as one spot opens, it fills,” Deanna Timmons said.

Council member April Ryan said child care is difficult to find in New Braunfels, and thanked the Timmonses.

"I hope you will continue to have a good working relationship with your neighbors," Ryan said.

Looking ahead

If the rezoning is approved, Deanna Timmons said they hope to accept more children into the day care by September.
