New Braunfels City Council approved an amendment to an ordinance that would reduce the term of residents' river parking passes from three years to one year on March 10.

The amendment was approved on first reading and will come back for final approval at a future meeting.
What residents should know
The previous process required residents to come into the Parks Administrative Office, located at 110 Golf Course Road, or Das Rec, located at 345 Landa St., during operating hours to get a sticker to put on their windshield, according to a presentation.
"The pass was extended from a one-year pass to a three-year pass a few years ago, and with the changes that we are going to experience by switching with Interstate Parking, we have the ability to have them manage the resident parking program and that would make our parking pass a digital program," Amy Niles, the city's river and watershed manager said.
Niles said the change will eliminate individuals who have a pass but have since moved or lived in New Braunfels temporarily, received a pass and then moved away, and are no longer paying city taxes.
Everyone who lives within the corporate city limits is eligible for a parking pass.

The city is still in the process of finalizing a contract with Interstate Parking for parking management services in select city parks and downtown. Niles said the city has been working with Interstate Parking to begin development what the online permit portal will look like—which should go live April 1.
"That will give people one month to be able to get their resident parking pass program or get their permit set up," she said.
