On May 30, several area organizations will participate in a Memorial Day ceremony at the Main Plaza in downtown New Braunfels.
American Legion Post 179, the New Braunfels High School and Canyon High School JROTC programs, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7110 and the New Braunfels Noon Lions Club will participate in the ceremony, according to a news release.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. with opening remarks from New Braunfels Mayor Rusty Brockman followed by live music by the New Braunfels High School Band, the presentation of colors by JROTC cadets, a rifle salute, the laying of a memorial wreath and more.
“Memorial Day is a day of solemn contemplation over the cost of freedom. On this important occasion, we pay homage to all of those who didn’t come home,” said Kuurt Andersen, co-chair of the Military Affairs Committee, in a statement. “Those of us who enjoy the privileges that we enjoy, must never forget those heroes who died to protect our way of life.”
