Comal ISD Superintendent elected Chair of Texas State Safety Center Board

On June 29, Comal Independent School District Superintendent Andrew Kim was elected Chair of the Texas School Safety Center, or TxSSC, Board of Directors.

Kim was first appointed to the board by Texas Gov. Abbott in 2017 and was reappointed in 2019.

The TxSSC is a research center at Texas State University which works to develop school safety initiatives and mandates under the Texas Education Code and the Governor’s Homeland Security Strategic Plan.

The TxSSC also serves as a clearinghouse for the dissemination of safety and security information through research, training and technical assistance for K-12 schools and junior colleges throughout Texas.

“It is an honor to be elected as the chair of this board,” Kim said in a press release. “Today, more than ever, the safety and security of our students and schools is of the utmost importance, and I look forward to working on its continuing improvement.”

Of the 15-member board, six members are government employees, including the attorney general, and the remaining nine members are appointed by the governor.
