The Comal ISD board of trustees approved a mountain lion as the mascot for Mayfair Elementary School, located at 5912 Guthrie Trail, New Braunfels, on April 24.
The background
The board selected the name Mayfair Elementary School in January, according to previous reporting by Community Impact. Voters approved funding for the new school in the November 2023 bond election.
Mascot nominations opened to the Oak Creek Elementary and Freiheit Elementary School communities from Feb. 14-18. One hundred responses from the community were submitted, with four of them having multiple nominations and the board approving mountain lions.
