A new development with a boutique hotel and single-family homes is underway in New Braunfels.
Construction for the River's Edge at Gruene, a 125-acre development located along FM 306 near The Chapel at Gruene, began in 2025. The project is being developed by local Clint Jones, who began getting involved in residential development after working as general counsel for a national homebuilder. Before moving to New Braunfels 10 years ago, Jones lived in Lake Travis where he partnered with Red McCombs to develop The Reserve at Lake Travis.
“That was the first major development that I was involved with that was more along the lines of a resort-type community,” Jones told Community Impact.
About the project
River's Edge at Gruene will consist of about 200-225 homes with a mix of riverfront lots, river access lots, estate lots, garden homes and farm homes. The riverfront lots will have an exclusive riverfront patio, said Wade Goodwin, a real estate broker working on the project.
Buyers will bring their own builder to build their home. Riverfront lots within the development will range from $900,000 to $2.3 million The river access lots will begin at the mid-$300,000 to the high $400,000, Jones said.
The water and electricity will be serviced by New Braunfels Utilities, Jones said.
A 40-to-60-room boutique hotel will also be located within the property; however, Jones has not yet selected a hotelier to partner with. The hotel will provide a shuttle service for residents interested in visiting the Gruene Historic District on the weekends, Jones said.
The River's Edge at Gruene will also have sports courts, a pool and speakeasy or rooftop bar. There will also be casitas constructed as part of the project along with some commercial. Additional planning for the boutique hotel and other amenities is anticipated to begin in 2027. Jones said he is aiming to complete construction of the hotel and additional amenities in late 2029 or early 2030.
He said the property has a lot of beauty and character, which lends itself to be a resort-style community.
“I think it will blend very nicely with respect to the residents of the community,” he said.
