Step into the cheese world at Otto’s Cheese Shop in New Braunfels

Thanks to the new location, the Pinedas said they were able to open a dining room and install a large wine cabinet to host these events, plus serve customers full meals.

“We’ve also incorporated a menu for people to come and sit and have a glass of wine and a meal,” Bob Pineda said.

The shop now has a recurring schedule of events each month. One of the more popular highlights includes a mozzarella-making class, according to Pineda.

Other events include curated dinners and wine pairings, educational classes featuring cheese experts discussing various forms of cheese, date-night evenings and more.

“I really like it when I get to hear how our regular customers are using their new cheese knowledge,” Pineda said.

While Otto’s may have moved across New Braunfels, they still offer the same cheese selection as before. The shop also has a food menu for sit-down meals in the larger space.

“Here, you get to try the cheese right at the counter and figure out exactly what you want,” Pineda said.

Options include cut-to-order sharp cheddars, blues, Brie and more. Cheeses at Otto’s come from a variety of sources such as cows, sheep, goats and water buffalo, according to their website.

Aside from cheese, Pineda said his local shop stands out for its local service and special retail offerings.

“I think a lot of people just like seeing a familiar face behind the counter,” Pineda said. “We have a lot of passionate and knowledgeable employees here.”

Also on the shelves are customizable gift boxes, cheese boards and wine by the bottle. There’s also a cheese club program where customers receive monthly boxes of unique cheese samples.

After releasing a book called "The Texas Cheese Trail" in 2024, the Pinedas are now looking ahead to continuing to grow Otto’s in New Braunfels.

“There’s always room for growth, and we’re always trying to do better,” Rachel Pineda said. “Being able to pivot quickly is going to keep us going.”

Additionally, Pineda said the pair is gearing up to release a documentary about cheeses throughout Texas, similar to the content of the book the couple released.
