Since moving down the street and away from downtown, the newly expanded Producer’s Co-op retail location—The Producer’s Co-op Country Store—on South Seguin Avenue has garnered new customers previously unaware of its array of offerings.
“Once we moved out here and added the home and gift boutique type of thing, obviously we didn’t do this in the old store,” said Mandy-Jo Laurent, store manager for the Country Store.
“This has helped us be kind of a one-stop place for a lot of people in the [agricultural] community who come in and buy feed for their steer, but also a birthday present for their aunt, get fertilizer, and then their dog needs food, so you can do everything you need to do in one place,” she said.
The Producer’s Co-op has a long-standing history in Comal, Guadalupe and surrounding counties as one of the largest regional suppliers of show feed for 4-H clubs and county fair competitions as well as general livestock feed, equipment and accessories for agricultural needs since 1944, said Jeff Thayne, Chief Operating Officer of the Producer’s Co-op. The Producer’s Co-op is run and managed by its members. It began with 142 founding members and has grown over the years to more than 1,700, Thayne said.
