City officials are planning extensions of Laud Howell Parkway and Stonebridge Drive in the coming years. Here are five updates on current or planned transportation projects in McKinney.

Upcoming projects
1. Laud Howell Parkway extension
Project: Construction of two lanes of Laud Howell Parkway between Trinity Falls Parkway and Lake Forest Drive. Private development firm Republic Property Group is constructing Lanes 1 and 2 of the roadway, and the city will construct Lanes 3 and 4.
Update: McKinney City Council approved a design contract with LJA Engineering in June, and design is underway. Construction of Lanes 1 and 2 by Republic Property Group is already underway.
- Project timeline: Design is expected to take about 12 months to complete. Construction of Lanes 3 and 4 is expected to begin in 2028.
- Project cost: $18 million

2. Stonebridge Drive extension
Project: Construction of two lanes of Stonebridge Drive between US 380 and Bloomdale Road. A full six-lane bridge will be constructed over Wilson Creek.
Update: The preliminary alignment study is nearly complete. A final design contract is expected to be presented to McKinney City Council for approval in fall 2026.
- Project timeline: Final design is expected to begin in fall 2026. Construction is expected to begin in 2028.

Ongoing projects
3. Eldorado Parkway and Virginia Parkway street rehabilitation
Project: Reconstruction of failing concrete panels and broken curbs along Eldorado Parkway between Ridge Road and US 75, and Virginia Parkway between Stonebridge Drive and US 75. Additional improvements between Hardin and US 75 will be delayed until additional funding is available.
Update: Work on Eldorado Parkway is complete. Work continues on Virginia Parkway between Lake Forest Drive and Hardin Boulevard.

4. US 380 illumination project
Project: Installation of new median street lighting along US 380 between Custer Road and Bois D’ Arc Road.
Update: Construction is underway and expected to be completed in August.

5. US 380 and Community Avenue intersection improvements
Project: Intersection improvements at US 380 and Community Avenue to include eastbound and westbound dual left turns, a southbound right turn lane, and traffic signal improvements.
Update: Waterline and sanitary sewer adjustments are nearly complete. Street paving is expected to begin within the next one to two months. Traffic impacts are expected while work is ongoing.
