Concrete panel replacement is continuing along Virginia Parkway and design is underway for realigning East Virginia Street. Here are five updates on current or planned transportation projects in McKinney.

1. East Virginia Street improvements
Project: Reconstruction of East Virginia Street will occur between Murray Street and Airport Drive. The project will include a new alignment and connection to Airport Drive and a new roundabout at the intersection of Virginia Street and Lively Hill Lane. The project includes waterline, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, illumination, hardscape and landscape improvements.
Update: Design work is 90% complete. Franchise utility coordination and right-of-way acquisitions are underway. The project is expected to bid in early 2027.

2. Laud Howell Parkway extension
Project: Construction of two lanes of Laud Howell Parkway is planned between Trinity Falls Parkway and Lake Forest Drive. Private development firm Republic Property Group is constructing Lanes 1 and 2 of the roadway, and the city will construct Lanes 3 and 4.
Update: McKinney City Council approved a design contract with LJA Engineering in June, and design work is underway. Construction of Lanes 1 and 2 by Republic Property Group is already underway.
- Timeline: Design work is expected to take about 12 months to complete. Construction of Lanes 3 and 4 is expected to begin in 2028.

3. SH 5 utility relocations
Project: Relocation of the city’s water and wastewater utilities is planned in advance of the Texas Department of Transportation’s upcoming reconstruction project along SH 5.
Update: Construction is about 75% complete. All relocations south of Eldorado Parkway/Industrial Boulevard have been completed and TxDOT’s project is underway. Elm Street has reopened to traffic. Various locations between Elm Street and US 380 along SH 5 will experience localized lane closures to complete remaining construction.

4. Eldorado Parkway and Virginia Parkway rehabilitation
Project: Reconstruction of failing concrete panels and broken curbs will occur along Eldorado Parkway between Ridge Road and US 75, and Virginia Parkway between Stonebridge Drive and US 75.
Update: Work on Eldorado Parkway is complete. Work continues on Virginia Parkway between Lake Forest Drive and Hardin Boulevard. Additional improvements along Virginia Parkway between Hardin Boulevard and US 75 will be delayed until funding is available.

5. Industrial Boulevard illumination project
Project: Installation of new median illumination is planned along Industrial Boulevard between SH 5 and Airport Drive.
Update: Construction is complete as of July 2026 and the new lighting is operational.
