As the Fourth of July approaches, here is what McKinney residents need to know about seeing fireworks in the city.
The context
In McKinney, possession and use of fireworks, including sparklers, is illegal without a permit from the fire department. This also applies to 5,000 feet outside of the city’s limits, with fines up to $2,000, according to the city's website.
“Fireworks ordinances in McKinney are primarily about ensuring safety,” Fire Marshal Brian M. Roash said in an emailed statement. “They help prevent fire hazards, particularly in dry conditions where fireworks can easily ignite dangerous fires. ... Ultimately, these ordinances help create a safer and more peaceful community for everyone.”
