McKinney City Council members greenlit Lifted Trucks’ parking space expansion with approval of a specific use permit in July.

The permit enables Lifted Trucks, located at 900 N. Central Expressway, to add more parking spaces and protective canopies to cover vehicles on-site, McKinney Planning Director Lucas Raley said. A specific use permit was required since Lifted Trucks is an automotive dealership, he said.
“This site existed prior to the requirement for an SUP for auto-related uses,” Raley said. “It was an existing non-conforming site, but now that they have demolished the building that was on-site, they plan to expand the use.”
A site plan attached to the agenda shows plans for more than 40 new parking spaces for vehicle display and five canopies to cover a mix of new and existing spaces.
Council members approved the permit during a July 7 meeting. The action came after McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend approval in June.

In 2025, Lifted Trucks officials announced the demolition of an existing building on the property to make room for additional parking. The custom truck dealership opened in McKinney in 2022; however, the property has hosted automotive sales uses since the 1980s, according to a city document.
McKinney City Council amended the city’s zoning ordinance in 2018 to require specific use permits for auto sale and rental uses in certain zoning districts. Lifted Trucks now needs a specific use permit in order to expand the site, Raley said.
“It was not required at the time because it preexisted the SUP requirement, but because they’re expanding the site, they now need that SUP,” he said.
