The McKinney Community Development Corp. has awarded more than $1.1 million to three separate projects for infrastructure work.

MCDC’s board of directors awarded funding as part of its Project Grants program during an Aug. 28 meeting. Project grants are available for eligible infrastructure improvement projects and more, according to MCDC’s website.
MCDC was created in 1996 after McKinney voters approved a half-cent sales tax to be used for grants and projects that enhance the city’s amenities. Grant funding is approved by the board of directors, a seven-member body appointed by McKinney City Council.
The details
Board members awarded $1,143,403 in total to three projects, according to an MCDC news release, including:
- Harvest Seed Project Foundation: $764,953
- Infrastructure work related to construction of McKinney Roots community farm at Gray Branch Park
- Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary: $72,102.16
- Creation and installation of an indoor bug adobe exhibit, and painting and restoration projects
- CommonGood Medical: $306,348.08
- Infrastructure work related to relocation and expansion of the clinic at 2750 Virginia Parkway

In a statement, MCDC board chair George Fuller said the projects advance the organization’s strategic priorities and its commitment to being a “strong partner” in McKinney.
“Each of these investments addresses an important community need,” Fuller said. “Two projects will provide meaningful support to residents facing financial challenges, while another expands opportunities for recreation and education. Together, these projects demonstrate how MCDC investments can make a tangible difference in the lives of McKinney residents and strengthen our community for the future.”
A closer look
McKinney Roots broke ground on its upcoming community farm in May. The nonprofit is expected to move to Gray Branch Park later in 2026, where it will have room to expand farming and educational opportunities, according to McKinney Roots’ website.
The community farm will be located on 62 acres of parkland that the city purchased in 2016. City leaders approved an agreement for development in 2025. That agreement was amended in April with updated phasing timelines.

CommonGood Medical relocated to 2750 Virginia Parkway in July. Work on the expanded office is expected to continue through December 2026, according to a presentation to MCDC.
The organization's new clinic space spans about 9,000 square feet and includes six exam rooms. Additional phases of build-out at the facility are expected to add an on-site imaging center that will offer mammograms, X-rays and sonography.
