McKinney ISD's music education program earns national recognition

McKinney ISD has been named to the 2020 Best Communities for Music Education list.

The designation, which is sponsored by the National Association of Music Merchants, represents MISD’s commitment and access to music education.

The award program is designed to recognize “outstanding efforts" by students, teachers, parents and community leaders to provide a well-rounded music education, according to the NAMM Foundation.

The district is one of just 87 school districts recognized in the state of Texas. This is the fourth consecutive year that McKinney ISD has received the honor.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the NAMM Foundation for the fourth consecutive year,” MISD Fine Arts Director Dan White said in a news release. “Being recognized at a national level for the quality fine arts program in our district is a tribute to the work of our outstanding fine arts teachers.”

In order to be considered for the Best Communities for Music Education designation, school districts are required to provide information on music education funding, class participation, instructional time, facilities and other support provided to music programs.
