Hoshi Ranch Japanese Barbecue & Local Market set to open in north McKinney

Steve Feldman, McKinney resident and owner of Hoshi Japanese Cafe in Plano, said he plans on launching a soft opening of Hoshi Ranch Japanese Barbecue & Local Market in November. The north McKinney restaurant will fill a space formerly occupied by The Shack by Chef Noah Hester in Cornerstone Farms’ restaurant space.

The specifics

The menu will feature a mixture of barbecue meat including traditional American options such as brisket and pulled pork as well as Japanese options like wagyu.

Feldman said in addition to offering table-side interactive cooking experiences, the eatery will also roast gourmet coffee onsite and serve breakfast.

Live music will be held at the restaurant but scheduled at a later date, Feldman said.

The market portion of the new business will sell a variety of goods, including:

• Japanese cuts of meat
• American cuts of meat
• South African cuts of meat
• Locally sourced eggs
• Pickled items

How it happened

Feldman said he learned about the restaurant space through John and Brandi Johnson, owners of Cornerstone Farms, with whom he shares a connection in the car community.

“I love everything about this beautiful location—the rustic feel and reclaimed wood,” Feldman said. “It’s a flashback to another day and age of Texas that has a great community vibe.”
