A new Texas Health hospital is set to bring at least 60 hospital beds to north McKinney.
The hospital campus is being developed by the faith-based nonprofit health system to serve the growing needs of North Texas, a Feb. 24 news release states. The facility is expected to open in 2028.
The specifics
The hospital campus is slated for a 51-acre site near the intersection of US 75 and Laud Howell Parkway in northeast McKinney, and will include both a hospital and a medical office building.
The McKinney hospital will feature 60 beds when it opens, but officials plan to double the capacity in the future, the release states. The facility will feature a Women’s Services Center that includes a labor and delivery unit as well as a neonatal intensive care unit. It will also include an emergency department, surgical suites, cardiology services and advanced imaging.
"This new facility will provide advanced medical care and emergency services to thousands of local families who deserve convenient, quality treatment close to home,” Texas Health CEO Barclay Berdan said in the release.
The facility will be the hospital system’s northernmost investment in Collin County and is expected to serve McKinney and neighboring cities with fast-growing populations such as Princeton, Anna and Melissa, the release states. It will join nearby Texas Health hospitals in Allen, Frisco and Plano.

The context
McKinney City Council members approved two zoning requests for the planned hospital at a Dec. 2 meeting.
A conceptual stacking plan included in the hospital zoning request showed a first phase with a five-story hospital. More phases could eventually build the hospital up to 12 stories, according to city documents. The new zoning establishes a maximum building height of 210 feet, or 12 stories.
Diving in deeper
The new hospital is a “major step” in the hospital system’s investment in the region, the release states.
The hospital system has 29 hospital locations across North Texas, along with urgent care, primary care and specialty care options. The system totals more than 4,400 hospital beds, 6,400 physicians and nearly 29,000 employees, the release states.
Construction on other Texas Health hospitals is underway, including a new hospital in Forney, a vertical expansion at Texas Health Frisco and a new eight-story tower at Texas Health Plano. A large renovation was also completed in recent years at Texas Health Allen, which increased the hospital’s beds and space.
