COVID-19 drive-thru testing now offered at McKinney Walmart

A McKinney Walmart store launched COVID-19 drive-thru testing May 4.

State and local officials, Walmart and eTrueNorth, a pharmacy partner, have teamed up to test people who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 as well as any health care providers and first responders who may or may not be showing symptoms, according to a McKinney news release.

To be tested, people showing symptoms must sign up for an appointment at www.doineedacovid19test.com. Once they do that, they can visit the testing site at their appointment time. There is no out-of-pocket cost to the individual, according to the release.

The testing site is in the parking lot of the Walmart at 1721 N. Custer Road, McKinney. The site is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-9 a.m.

To receive treatment after making an appointment, patients must wear masks to the testing site and stay in their vehicles.

“We are enthusiastic to have another resource available to help in our ability to identify who is positive in our community so they can take appropriate measures to ensure no further spread and ensure they receive appropriate medical care,” Mayor George Fuller said in the news release. “The data provided through testing helps our city make educated and thoughtful decisions as we move towards ending restrictions.”
