The city of McKinney is offering Christmas tree recycling and composting for residents until Jan. 27.
Waste Connections will pick up trees at homes as part of regular trash day pickup, according to the city of McKinney’s website. Residents can place the tree next to their trash container for pickup. For residents who live in an apartment, there are two drop-off locations:
- Al Ruschhaupt Soccer Fields at Park View Avenue, south of Brook Drive; and
- Gabe Nesbitt Park at Hillsdale Drive, east of Alma Road.
For trees to be recycled, the city asks that residents remove all lights, ornaments and decorations from the tree. Trees should not be bagged and any trees with flocking will be considered trash. Any trees with ornaments or lights will not be collected and must be scheduled for a bulky item pick-up, according to the city of McKinney website.
Natural decorations, such as natural poinsettias, pine garland and wreaths, can also be placed in brown compost bags next to trash bins on regularly scheduled trash days for pickup. These items should be removed from any pots or containers, and have any lights or ornaments removed.
