Whole Foods in McKinney to open Aug. 27

McKinney’s first Whole Foods Market has an opening date, according to a news release from the grocery chain.

Whole Foods Market will open in a 47,918-square-foot space anchoring the West Grove development along West University Drive in McKinney. The store will sell more than 600 local items sourced from Texas and neighboring states, according to the news release.

The store will open with several specialty departments including a cheese counter, a full-service seafood counter, a full-service meat counter and a bakery department. The store will also sell a variety of wines and craft beers, some of which were sourced from local breweries.

All food sold at the store must meet the company’s quality standards which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup and more than 300 flavors, colors and sweeteners.

Whole Foods will open at 8 a.m. on opening day. That morning, customers can enjoy complimentary coffee from Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters and food from OHLA! Foods. The first 300 customers in line will receive a tote bag and Secret Saver coupon featuring offers up to $100 off. The McKinney location will also feature new smart shopping carts called a Dash Cart. The first 500 shoppers who use a Dash Cart will receive a branded tote bag on opening day.

Whole Foods was founded in Austin and has since opened more than 500 grocery stores across the U.S. The grocery chain sells a variety of natural and organic products that includes produce, beverages, dairy products and meat. Whole Foods also sells vegan products, keto-friendly products and gluten-free products, according to its website.
