Morriss Road improvements

To allow for panel replacement work, portions of Morriss Road were reduced to one lane May 15. The lane reductions begin on the northbound lanes north of Tournament Drive and follow the panel replacements as they progress. Work on the 20-inch water line replacement from Forest Vista Drive to Garden Road was scheduled to begin May 28. The project includes concrete panel replacements from FM 3040 to Firewheel, Americans with Disabilities Act improvements from FM 3040 to Firewheel as well as 20- and 24-inch water line replacements from Forest Vista to Garden. Additional work includes FM 3040 and Morriss intersection improvements and a southbound left-turn lane extension at Morriss and Forest Vista.

Main Street reconstruction

The contractor is still working on curbs, sidewalks, driveways and crosswalks along the south side of Main Street east of Mill Street in Lewisville as well as installing electrical conduit for lighting. This will continue for the next 4-6 weeks. Once the south side of the street is substantially complete, the contractor will begin working on the north side of Main. The project is still on track to have Main substantially complete by September. The contractor will not work on Mill until Main is substantially complete. The project includes adding on-street parking; bicycle lanes; wider sidewalks, traffic signal modifications, and amenities such as benches and recycle bins on Main and Mill.

Highland Village bond projects

Highland Village City Council in May approved a $523,000 bid to Pavecon Public Works LP for the first phase of the 2017 street bond program. The construction project includes the reconstruction of seven streets. Those streets are Rosedale Street, Shasta Court, Ranier Court, Snowdon Court, Sheldon Court, Sugarloaf Court and Catesby Place. The street improvements earmarked for bond money include the reconstruction of 23 residential streets that were identified as failing or at the end of their life cycle. The streets will be reconstructed in four phases.

Fairway Drive update

Fairway Drive across Grapevine Lake dam has been closed since August due to a slide at the dam. The Army Corps of Engineers is in the process of repairing the slide and had intended to close the road during the construction phase only. However, in January the Corps said the road will be closed indefinitely. The Corps said in order to reopen the road to the public, the embankment restoration project of the dam, repair of asphalt and the guardrail in the vicinity of the slide repair, and maintenance of the road—including crack sealing—must be complete, Flower Mound officials said in May. No date or schedule for reopening of the road was provided.
