Mayors of Lewisville, Flower Mound and Highland Village compete in pizza cook-off for charity

The mayors of Lewisville, Flower Mound and Highland Village will go head to head in a charity pizza cook-off on July 29.

The Mayoral Pizza Cook-off for these cities starts at 5:30 p.m. when all three mayors will create their best pizza at Motor City Pizza Kitchen. Judging will take place at 6 p.m. next door at T's Bar and Grill, 1305 S. State Highway 121 in Lewisville. Each mayor will compete to win money for their respective charity as well as bragging rights.

Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore will represent Christian Community Action, a faith-based charity that provides food, school supplies and financial support to families in need. Flower Mound Mayor Derek France will represent Journey to Dream, a nonprofit dedicated to helping teenagers overcome homelessness. Highland Village Mayor Charlotte Wilcox will represent Cloud 9 Charities, which provides temporary housing to struggling families.

"Mayor Wilcox and Mayor France are great sports," Gilmore said in a Facebook Live video posted July 27. "For them to go up against my culinary genius is pretty daunting, so I give them maximum credit."

Final results will be determined based on three separate scores. A third of the points will come from Thursday’s taste test. Another third will be determined by the amount of money raised for each charity in pizza sales by the end of the weekend. The last segment will come from the total amount of money donated through the Motor City Pizza Facebook page for each mayor.

“We’re going to have a great time,” Gilmore said. “If you’re looking for something to do this Thursday, come on down to T’s Bar and Grill at 6 p.m. for the unveiling and judging of the mayoral pizzas.”
