The city of Lewisville is asking residents to conserve or reduce their water usage to avoid a water emergency. The city’s water system is operating at maximum capacity, according to a July 18 press release.
Denton County is under an excessive heat warning, placing significant stress on the city’s and North Texas’ water supply. The National Weather Service’s criteria for an excessive heat warning is a heat index of 105 degrees Fahrenheit or greater that will last for two hours or more.
The press release cites outdoor irrigation as the biggest stressor on the water system. Therefore, the city will increase enforcement of its mandatory outdoor watering restrictions.
Businesses and residents are limited to two outdoor watering days per week. Residents with an even-numbered address are allowed to water on July 19 and July 23. Those with an odd-numbered address are allowed to water on July 20 and July 24.
