Lewisville City Council member TJ Gilmore’s mayoral aspirations call for a special election, according to the Texas Election Code.
A week after the Lewisville City Council called for the May 1 election—and days after Mayor Rudy Durham’s announcement that he would not seek re-election—Gilmore submitted an application to run for mayor. His bid requires he resign from his current Place 3 seat.
Under state law, Gilmore will be allowed to serve on the council until the election.
The special election to fill the remainder of the unexpired Place 3 term will be held in conjunction with the May 1 City Council Election.
