Derek France wins Flower Mound mayor's seat in runoff election

Voting results in the June 5 runoff election for Flower Mound mayor show Derek France as the winner.

France has received 56.62% of the vote, and Gelbman has 43.38% with all 17 Denton County precincts currently reported. Only early voting totals have been released for the Tarrant County portion of Flower Mound at this time.

France could not immediately be reached for comment.

In the May 1 election, no candidate received at least 50% of the votes, so the candidates with the two highest vote totals proceeded to the runoff election.

The election canvass will be held at June 15 during a Town Council meeting. There will be a reception for the incoming mayor and recently elected Mayor Pro Tem Jim Engel.

Flower Mound Town Mayor Steve Dixon had announced in February that he would not seek re-election, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.
