Lewisville ISD's new Outdoor Learning Center opens to students this fall

A new Outdoor Learning Center is set to open to students later this fall in Lewisville ISD’s Outdoor Learning Area, or LISDOLA.

The structure, which is replacing an older, portable building, contains four classrooms, six total learning areas and three outdoor patios, LISD Chief Communications Officer Amanda Brim said in an email.

“LISDOLA has 84 acres supplied by the U.S. Department of Education back in 1995, which has created over 20 walking trails for students to explore and learn,” Brim stated.

The new center, with a guaranteed maximum price approved by the board for about $4.77 million, was funded as part of the $737 million bond measure approved by voters in 2017.

Brim said more than 10,000 students each year visit the Outdoor Learning Area, where they study animal and plant life, recycling, water works and solar energy, and work on team-building exercises.
