Highland Village to spray for mosquitoes in Castlewood area

Crews with the city of Highland Village will spray for mosquitoes in the Castlewood area on Aug. 5, 6 and 7.

City crews will spray in the morning hours, concentrating on spraying ideal mosquito habitats, such as creeks, drainage culverts and wooded wet areas. Specific spray areas can be found on a map here.

“This week, one trap in the Castlewood area tested positive for the West Nile virus,” a Highland Village news release said.

The public works drainage division has a program to detect the presence of this virus. More information on the West Nile virus can be found here.

The city suggests residents check to ensure there is no standing water around their property. In addition, the city recommends these three tips for residents:

• Drain standing water around your homes to reduce mosquito breeding sites;
• Dress in pants and long sleeves when outside in mosquito-infested areas; and
• Apply an insect repellent that contains DEET to exposed skin and clothing when outdoors.
