New traffic signal coming to Windhaven Parkway in Lewisville

A new traffic signal will be coming to the Castle Hills area of Lewisville.

Lewisville City Council approved a contract with Durable Specialties Inc. during the March 18 meeting to install a traffic signal at Cookie Lane and Windhaven Parkway.

Current situation

The city sent out 32 bids, but only three companies applied for the project. Durable Specialties, from Grand Prairie, had the lowest bid, according to city documents. The base bid was $743,889.90, with a 5% contingencies added to bring the total amount to $781,078.10.

The contract is for 365 days, which is longer than normal due to the wait for traffic signal components, according to city documents.

The details

The location was chosen due to the expected increasing traffic on Windhaven Parkway as result of the underpass bridge construction being finished and proximity to Independence Elementary School and LISD Technology, Exploration & Career Center East, according to city documents.

The work will include:

• Signal equipment
• Constructing Americans with Disabilities Act ramps
• Modifying medians
• Striping pavement markings
• Installing traffic signs
