Candidacy filing for Lewisville, Coppell councils begins Jan. 18

Lewisville and Coppell residents seeking city council spots can file for candidacy in their respective cities beginning Jan. 18.

The filing period for both cities will end Feb. 17. Early voting will begin April 24, and May 6 is election day.

Lewisville City Council seats for Place 1 and Place 3 are scheduled to be on the ballot. Both seats are three-year terms. Place 1 is held by Bob Troyer, and Place 3 is held by Ronni Cade.

Eligible applicants for Lewisville must be qualified voters, have lived in Lewisville for at least one year prior to the election date and live in the residential district associated with the position being sought. Candidates cannot owe back taxes or other liabilities to the city and cannot be a city employee while serving on the council. Candidates must live in the assigned districts, but voting will be held citywide. A map of each district can be found here.

City Council places 1, 3, 5 and 7 will be on the ballot for Coppell. Those seats are held by Cliff Long, Don Carroll, John Jun, Mark Hill, respectively.

Eligible candidates for Coppell must be qualified voters, have resided in Coppell or annexed territory at least 12 months prior to election day, and cannot be in arrears in the payment of any taxes or other liabilities due the city. Candidates cannot file in a single election for more than one office or place position as provided by the Home Rule Charter. No employee of this city shall continue in such position after filing for an elective office provided for in the Home Rule Charter.
