As the summer draws to a close, several construction projects are underway around Leander and Liberty Hill. Here’s what to keep an eye out for.
Ongoing projects
Legacy Ranch Drive expansion
Project: Crews are working to expand approximately 0.6 miles from Seward Junction North Loop, also known as CR 258 and CR 260, to a CR 258 extension east of US 183, including new signals, pavement improvements, and turn lanes serving a future Liberty Hill ISD site.
Update: Contractors broke ground March 6.
Project
: The county-led project will see the widening of approximately 7 miles from FM 3405 to Hwy. 29, including separated northbound and southbound roadways. New traffic signals are operational at Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Santa Rita Boulevard.Update: Construction is underway.
Project
: The city-led road program will extend the San Gabriel Parkway eastward from Isaias Drive to West Ronald Reagan Boulevard, between the Palmera Ridge and Palmera Bluff subdivisions, as an arterial roadway.Update: Construction is ongoing; a traffic signal at San Gabriel Parkway and Ronald Reagan Boulevard is expected to be operational in 2026.
Project
: A substantial reconstruction and widening of RM 2243 and Hero Way is underway, which will see the two-lane roadway divided into a controlled-access highway from 183A Toll to Southwest Bypass, including frontage roads in both directions.Update: Initial-phase construction began in late January, including frontage road work from the 183A Toll to Garey Park. Phase 2A is expected to begin in fall 2028, according to county documents.
Freedom River Parkway East and West
Project: Construction includes the creation of a new east-west roadway connection from Hwy. 29 to RM 1869 and from Bagdad Road-CR 279 to Hwy. 29, improving Liberty Hill bypass connectivity.
Update: Both projects remain in the design phase through 2026 as part of the Liberty Hill bypass connectivity network.
Project
: Work includes the reconstruction of Seward Junction North Loop along two segments connecting US 183 to Hwy. 29, and CR 260 to CR 213.Update: Schematic design has been completed. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
Project: Road improvements include the reconstruction of CR 201 from CR 200 to Umbrella Sky, including shoulders and turn lane improvements.
Update: Preliminary design is complete. Final plans still need to be submitted for the project.
Project
: Plans call for the realignment and reconstruction of CR 279-Bagdad Road from Loop 332 to CR 281 at the Leander city limits, including added lanes and a 10‑foot shared‑use path for bicyclists and pedestrians.Update: Final project designs are expected to be submitted in August while utilities are being moved.
Project: The initiative will see CR 175 widened from south of Creek Meadow Cove to RM 2243, which is expected to improve capacity and regional connectivity.
Update: The Phase 2 preliminary design is complete, and the 100% design is expected later this year.
Project
: Work includes the construction of two bidirectional lanes that will be added to extend CR 214 from Lariat Loop-South Hemingway Loop to US 183 over the San Gabriel River.Update: Design expected to be completed later this year.
