Liberty Hill City Council appointed community advocate and Butler Farms resident Lacy Scott to the Place 5 seat on City Council Aug. 12, after former council member Wade Ashley moved outside the city limits and resigned his seat.
The details
Ashley resigned effective July 28, as required by the city charter, city documents state. Ashley said during his last city council meeting that he moved because he got married. Council member Diane Williams recommended Scott to fill the vacancy.
Scott will serve out the rest of Ashley’s term, which ends May 1, 2027.

“I’m a teacher and coach by nature. My priorities are very simple: God, family and community—and I love this community,” Scott said at the meeting.
Williams said she recommended Scott because of her “proven grassroots engagement and strong community leadership” on behalf of the Butler Farms neighborhood.
Mayor Crystal Mancilla and council member Tim Hennessy also spoke in favor of Scott before City Council members voted unanimously to appoint her to the seat.
Ashley said at the meeting that he has confidence in the City Council moving forward.

I'm sad to leave the team, but I'm also very very happy to be married,” Ashley said. “I think the city's moving in the right direction and seeing their plan for where we're going, it makes sense.
