Just off Hwy. 29, a softly-lit sign for Liberty Hill Beer Market guides patrons to a spot offering beer, a full-service bar, and classic American and Italian cuisine.
About the owners
As longtime regulars turned owners, Brian and Donna Leonard came to purchase the bar quickly. After striking up a conversation with the previous owner about the bar’s finances, Brian Leonard—a banker by trade—mentioned he would be interested in buying the bar if it ever became available.
"A week later, we were buying a restaurant,” Donna Leonard said.
Donna Leonard previously worked in hospitality and as a flight attendant, while Brian Leonard cut his teeth in banking. The couple officially acquired the bar in March 2025. After closing for only a day, it reopened its doors under their management.

The setup
Since then, the Leonards have implemented new changes to make the space more family-friendly.
A playground that once bordered Hwy. 29 now sits behind the outdoor patio area, away from traffic. Children are also welcome to participate in the bar’s Thursday karaoke nights from 7 to 8 p.m.
“It made parents more comfortable to come here with their kids,” server Cristina Luka-Loose said.
The Leonards also preserved elements of the bar’s history. Metal nameplates that once lined the bar have now been relocated onto a single table under a smooth surface.

Additional upgrades include protective barriers near the fenced-in patio and capped string lights designed to minimize light pollution.
“Pretty much every project that we’ve done here, we’ve done it with guys that are my regulars” Donna Leonard said. “That’s how we met them. ... They’ve all been really not just wanting to be helpful, but wanting to be a part of it.”
What’s on the menu
While many of the dishes remain from the previous owner—a trained chef—the Leonards have added a few personal touches. The menu now features dishes such as the Rigatoni Leonardo, a sausage platter, and the family’s take on lasagna.
The menu includes a mix of Italian and American dishes, such as stuffed shells, four shells filled with ricotta, mozzarella and Parmesan served in tomato sauce. Another popular item is the chicken and mushrooms, a spaghetti dish served with two chicken breasts and sauteed with mushrooms.

Behind the bar, customers can choose from a wide variety of drinks, including cocktails such as the Blueberry Lemon Drop Martini. For those in the market for beer, the bar offers 30 beers on tap, with some rotating seasonally.
“We didn’t want to change a lot,” Donna Leonard said about the menu. “We didn’t want to make huge changes, and we didn’t need to.”
A family affair
For the Leonards, building community for both staff and customers has been a key element of their business. As Brian Leonard says, the business emphasizes "fun dining."
Many current servers were once regular patrons and spoke about the close-knit ties between staff. One server is set to be the videographer for another’s upcoming wedding.
Additionally, younger staff members point to the mentorship they receive from management.
Looking ahead
The Leonards are considering adding a private event space that patrons can reserve for gatherings.

In the meantime, the restaurant continues to host weekly events, such as trivia on Wednesdays and live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
