Liberty Hill’s Relentless Rides customizes vehicles to take on the Texas terrain

Central Texas has a wide range of terrain–gravel, dirt, mud, granite–and Relentless Rides in Liberty Hill customizes vehicles to navigate them all.

Specializing in suspension and steering, the shop installs lift kits, lowering kits, air suspension and more, owner Dan Wiley said.

Breaking it down

Relentless Rides outfits overlanders and rock crawlers, which are adventure vehicles tailored to specific uses, customizing suspension and modifying the vehicles so they can take their owners on long-distance explorations in the Texas backcountry.

The shop can prepare vehicles for everything from overcoming large boulders and obstacles to supporting more exploratory adventures where owners may encounter difficult terrain while car camping and chasing views, Wiley said.

Additionally, the garage lowers vehicles for performance handling.

About the owner

“I’ve never had a normal vehicle,” Wiley said. “Everything I’ve had has either been on the ground or up in the air.”

He said people lift or lower their vehicles for a range of reasons, but it all comes down to performance and handling preferences.

“I have both. I have ‘em up in the air and I have ‘em on the ground,” he said. “I just like custom vehicles in general.”

Wiley said his interest in cars was sparked when he was a kid. He played with Hot Wheels, and his dad used to take him to car shows.

Wiley grew up around the drag race scene, and has done a lot of racing over the years with his brother. He said they partook in both legal and illegal events, sometimes betting thousands of dollars on eighth-mile and quarter-mile races.

Wiley said he takes pride in both his work and crew.

“Everybody I have working for me has been some part of my life,” he said. “I never stop caring about what I do.”
