Texas Department of Transportation officials broke ground on the Loop 360 at Courtyard Drive/RM 2222 project April 29.
About the project
According to TxDOT officials, the project is part of TxDOT's slate of projects along 14 miles of Loop 360 in West Austin, and part of the Texas Clear Lanes congestion relief initiative.
Per officials, this segment will include:
- Removing the traffic signal from the Loop 360 mainlanes at Courtyard Drive, and construct an overpass
- Reconfiguring RM 2222 at Loop 360 to a diverging diamond interchange, or DDI
- Adding shared-use paths and sidewalks
Funding for the $68.4 million project will come from TxDOT and the city of Austin's
2016 mobility bond, as

Looking ahead
According to TxDOT, construction will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., and on Saturdays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Construction is expected to be complete by 2029.
The left turn lane of the northbound Loop 360 to RM 2222 exit remains closed, and following completion of Phase 1, which included constructing waterlines and excavating cliffs, the next steps will include:
- Phase 2: construct the new northbound and southbound connector roads, drainage systems, braided ramps and Courtyard Drive bridge, and start shared-use paths
- Phase 3: construct the RM 2222 DDI and complete the shared-use paths
- Phase 4: perform final paving and striping and open permanent traffic patterns
Also of noteThe other Loop 360 project underway is the Westlake Drive/Cedar Street segment, which will remove traffic signals from the main lanes, create an underpass beneath both cross streets, and add shared-use paths and sidewalks. The $72.1 million project is expected to be complete in 2026.
Construction on the Lakewood Drive/Spicewood Springs Road segment could begin by 2029, while the MoPac to Bee Cave Road and Bee Cave Road segments are contingent upon funding, according to TxDOT information.
