Several transportation projects are changing the flow of traffic in Lake Travis and Westlake this month.
From the MoPac South expansion to the Bee Cave Parkway pavement program, check out these nine transportation projects in the area.
Upcoming projects
MoPac South expansion
Project: The project includes added express lanes from Cesar Chavez Street to Slaughter Lane alongside shared-use paths, according to the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.
Update: The cost for the project increased more than $400 million, per documents from a Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority Board of Directors meeting presentation in July.
Bee Cave Parkway and Bee Cave Road pedestrian improvements
Project: Bee Cave Parkway and Bee Cave Road will undergo pedestrian improvements including the construction of signals, crosswalks, sidewalks and ADA curb ramps.
Update: The final package of design documents will be completed in August.
Cardinal Hills Estates substandard roads project
Project: The proposed improvements include the reconstruction of existing roadways and drainage enhancements at Lariat Trail, Lawrence Drive, Sutton Drive, Julie Lane, Richerson Drive, Scott Drive, Kinsey Court and San Antonio Street, in order to meet Travis County’s road standards.
Update: Travis County hosted a public open house to receive feedback on the project in July.
Cardinal Hills Estates street improvements
Project: Lawrence Drive, Sutton Drive and Lariat Trail will receive improved right-of-way sections in order to meet Travis County standards required to integrate the roads into ongoing county maintenance programs.
Update: The project is 12% complete as of July.
Bee Creek Road improvements
Project: Bee Creek Road, from Lakehurst Road to Highlands Boulevard, will be widened to include a divided, two-lane roadway with a two-way left turn lane, shoulders and a shared-use path on one side.
Update: Design work is expected to be completed at the end of 2026
Ongoing projects
West Lake Hills Street Maintenance Project
Project: The project consists of crack sealing and mill and overlay operations on several streets in the area in order to preserve and extend the life of the city’s road infrastructure.
Update: West Lake Hills City Council awarded the bid for the project to Alpha Paving Industries in late June.
Highlands Boulevard intersection improvements
Project: The intersection improvements include installing raised sidewalks on Highlands Boulevard at the intersection of Tavish Trail and Bee Creek Road roundabouts.
Update: Lakeway City Council awarded the bid for the project to MasTec North America Inc. in July after previously denying the lowest bidder due to performance and quality concerns.
Bee Cave Parkway pavement project
Project: The pavement improvement project will include a 2-inch mill and a 2 1/4-inch overlay on the road along with new striping and new signage. Along with these improvements, a metal beam guard fence will be added at the intersection of the shared driveway of The Auberge and the Montessori School.
Update: Phase 2 of the project consisting of pavement structural repairs began on July 26
Oak Hill Parkway improvements
Project: Since 2022, the Texas Department of Transportation has been reconstructing Hwy. 290 in Oak Hill, transforming the existing four-lane, undivided roadway to a six-lane divided highway with new frontage roads and 14 miles of shared-use paths.
Update: As of July 2026, drivers can now travel on newly opened mainlanes, frontage roads and ramps.
