Wonderfest, presented by the Westlake Chamber of Commerce, will be held Dec. 4 at Westlake High School. The festival is at the Chaparral Stadium parking lot off Camp Craft Road.
Wonderfest started many years ago as a simple Christmas tree on Bee Caves Road, said Cathy Hoover, executive director for the Westlake Chamber of Commerce. However, local businesses wanted to turn it into something they could participate in. For several years, Wonderfest was held at the Westlake Chamber office on Bee Caves Road and Westlake Drive. Six years ago, Wonderfest moved to Westlake High School to accommodate more vendors. Last year’s celebration brought in about 3,000 people.
This year is special because Santa Claus will ride in on a fire truck led by the Westlake High School drum line, Hoover said. Even though Santa usually rides in on a fire truck, this year he will stop at a winter wonderland backdrop, and parents can get their kids dressed up and use it as their official Christmas photo, she said.
In addition to a visit from Santa, families can also enjoy performances from all the local elementary school choirs and free food from eateries, such as Hat Creek Burger Company. There will also be face painters, balloon artists, a photo booth, a petting zoo, a bounce house and the Holiday Express Train.
